OUR STORY

Nine Years of
Refusing to Look
Away.

Oreva Girl Child Initiative was born from the conviction of Mrs. Oreva Mathilda Egbi to protect, empower, and give every girl in Nigeria the chance to rise, dream, and thrive.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Our Story

In 2016, Mrs. Oreva Mathilda Egbi walked into a school in Delta State with one thing – a burden she could no longer carry alone.

She had watched too many girls disappear. Not always physically. But emotionally. Academically. Into abusive homes, predatory situations, and a world that had never taught them how to protect themselves. She had seen what teen depression looked like when it had no language. What abuse looked like when it had no name. What a girl’s potential looked like when it had no platform.

So she built one.

What started as a single school visit became a conference. The conference became a programme. The programme became an initiative. And the initiative became a movement that has now touched the lives of over 8,000 girls and children across Rivers, Bayelsa, Lagos, and Delta States.

Today, OGACI operates citywide conferences, school outreach programmes, safety education series, entrepreneurship grants, government partnerships, and a growing network of empowered young women who are changing the conversation – and the outcomes – for the girl child in Nigeria.

We are not finished. We have barely started.

Our Mission

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Mrs. Oreva Mathilda Egbi

Founder & Executive Director

Mrs. Oreva Mathilda Egbi is an advocate, educator, public speaker, and the driving force behind the Oreva Girl Child Initiative. For over nine years, she has dedicated her life to the protection and empowerment of Nigeria’s girl child – building programmes from the ground up, forging partnerships with security agencies and government bodies, walking into schools and communities that most organisations overlook, and refusing to leave until something changes.

Her work spans child sexual abuse prevention, teen depression awareness, body education, mental health support, entrepreneurship development, and safety protocol training. She has led collaborations with institutions including the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).

Mrs. Oreva is more than a founder. She is proof of what happens when one person refuses to accept that things cannot change.
